Our Impact – Vamos Theatre

Arete partnered with Vamos Theatres to provide photography for A Brave Face, which tells the fictional story of Ryan, a British soldier who fought in Afghanistan at the age of 18, and battles post-traumatic stress (PTSD) after returning home. Having worked in Afghanistan with the British Military, Arete photographer Kate Holt was ideally placed to photograph and promote the production.

Kate documented a mask-making workshop at the Help for Heroes centre in Colchester, UK, and attended and photographed a rehearsal of the play, giving a behind-the-scenes look at what Paul Davies of BritishTheatre.com called “a powerful and sensitive piece.”

The play premiered at the London International Mime Festival last month and is now touring the UK, including a number of Veterans’ events.

“It’s an extremely powerful play and the Vamos team are doing fantastic work raising awareness of the challenges ex-forces and their families can face, and in providing a platform for exploring how we can better support them.” – Matthew Green, author of Aftershock
