
On April 24th, 2013 the new Pentavalent vaccine was launched in Somalia at an event attended by the Somali Minister for Health. Kate Holt, from Arete, flew up to Mogadishu to photograph the launch of the vaccine.
Somalia, along with South Sudan, has one of the lowest child immunisation rates in the world. The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Unicef, the UN children’s agency, estimated that in 2011 only 41% of Somali children had been vaccinated.
On April 24th, 2013 the new Pentavalent vaccine was launched in Somalia at an event attended by the Somali Minister for Health. The pentavalent preparation combines protection against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib).
Kate Holt from Arete flew up to Mogadishu to photograph the launch of the vaccine. The photographs were distributed amongst the UN agencies involved including UNICEF and the WHO for their press releases.
