Arete photographer Kate Holt has travelled to South Sudan many times to document the ongoing civil war and the experiences of the millions of displaced people across the world’s newest country. She has also photographed the work of UNICEF as they provide life-saving emergency relief and support to thousands of people.
Kate’s photographs have been published in The Guardian and Al Jazeera, while the stories of two children she collected have been produced into multimedia slideshows by Jessica Monson.
To mark the third anniversary of war in December 2016, Arete’s designer James Isgrove and copywriter Jessica Monson produced six infographic slides to demonstrate the impact that UNICEF has made over the last three years. In addition, two short films were produced, as well as Kate’s photos being published across the international media.
In March 2017 Arete organised a panel event, in association with UNICEF, at The Frontline Club to discuss the effects of conflict on the country with a group of experts. Arete’s editor Aaron Witchard created a short film that was screened at the event.
